Report abuse or illegal content

Last updated 25 September 2026.

If a child is in immediate danger, or there is a risk to life

Contact the police on 999, or 101 if it is not an emergency. Use this page afterwards if the problem also involves KithMoot.

How to report to us

Email abuse@safety.forgesworn.dev. You do not need a KithMoot account to report something to us, and you do not need to have been in the room yourself.

Please include, as far as you can:

  • The room link, if you have one or can share one with us.
  • An event id or a file link, if you have one. If you received the file or message through the app, KithMoot's "Copy a bug report" tool in Room details includes technical details that can help us identify what you mean, even though it never includes your messages.
  • What happened, and why you believe it is illegal or breaks our terms of use.
  • Whether a child is involved.

What we can and cannot do

KithMoot's rooms are end-to-end encrypted. We cannot read messages, files or calls in any room, and we do not pre-review or scan content. What we can act on is metadata: a room link, an event id, a file hash, a pubkey, and your own account of what happened.

Because of this, what we can actually do depends on which part of KithMoot is involved:

  • We can take our own default connection service (TURN), our default file store, our default message-drop service, or the relay we operate offline, or restrict what they accept, where a report concerns them.
  • We have no control over independent relays, or over rooms run entirely on other people's infrastructure. We will tell you plainly when this is the case, and point you elsewhere if we can.
  • Our default message-drop service is deliberately built to keep no record of who sent or received anything through it, so we cannot remove a single item from it or block a specific sender there; we can only take the whole service offline.

We aim to acknowledge a report within 2 working days. Read more about exactly what we can do, surface by surface, in our published report-handling runbook.

Child sexual abuse material

Do not describe the material in detail, attach it, or send it to us. Report it directly to:

  • The National Crime Agency, through CEOP.
  • The Internet Watch Foundation, at report.iwf.org.uk.

You can also tell us at abuse@safety.forgesworn.dev, so we can act on anything within our own control, but the authorities above are the right route for the material itself.

Complaints

If you reported something to us and are unhappy with what we did, write to the same address and say what happened. If you are not satisfied with our answer, you can contact Ofcom, which regulates online safety in the UK.

Something else

For a bug in the app rather than a safety concern, report an issue on GitHub instead.
